Eat Stop Eat; Does it Help You Lose Weight?
BACKGROUND The Eat Stop Eat program is a program designed to help you lose fat and weight while using weight training and intermittent fasting. Brad Pilon wrote the Eat Stop Eat program after his research “The Metabolic Effects of Short Periods of Fasting in Humans and its Potential Application in Weight Loss.” He implies that those who eat six times a day deal with “obsessive compulsive eating habits.” He also stresses that short fasting periods will not slow down your metabolism and in some instances that it may even make the metabolic rate speed up. Mr. Pilon also suggests that periodic fasting can help you with an addiction to food and even boost your fat burning hormones. He does stress the importance of exercise and that you will not lose any lean muscle mass. In the program you can eat what you want and it will help you stick to your periodic fasts and still lose weight. The program reassures that you will not have any lasting side effects and that you will still have energy to last through out the day. PROS - You can eat whatever you want.
- The program implements an exercise regimen.
- Has research that backs his theories.
CONS - You have to fast in the program.
- The idea of fasting may be a turn off to people and lead to binge eating.
DIET AND EXERCISE Mr. Pilon stresses that you are able to eat what you want but you should have periodic fasting days to stabilize or speed up the metabolism. An exercise regimen is suggested to use to supplement the fasting. EXPENSE The program will cost $77.00. CONCLUSION Mr. Pilon suggests that intermittent fasting will help in your endeavors in weight loss without you losing lean muscle mass or slowing your metabolism. I have taken nutrition classes, and this goes against everything I learned in that class along with my anatomy and physiology classes. I would not recommend fasting to anyone who wants to .
